Ginger, Apple and Rose Tea
If you are a lover of tea, a visit to Companhia Portugueza do Chá (Portuguese Tea Company) in Lisbon is a treat. This exquisite tea shop is housed in a picturesque old shoe store dating from 1880. The dark paneled shelves and walls contain a lovely selection of teas and blends, which are sold in fine hotels, cafés and restaurants in Lisbon.
During our visit, we asked the shopkeeper for a recommendation. He suggested the Ginger, Apple & Rose Bio blend, adding, “It tastes like springtime.”
This is a lovely, fragrant blend with sweet and subtle ginger tones. I like adding honey to ginger-based teas, but you only need a hint, if any, in this particular tea, so as not to overpower the delicate apple and rose flavors. This is the perfect afternoon tea to serve with cake, tea cookies or decadent pasteís de nata (Portuguese egg tarts). Cheers to tea!
